Couples Clay Classes
Classes are held in Rachelle's Lakeland, Florida home studio. Specific location will be sent upon registration.
Q. Do I get my same spot every month?
A. Yes. As long as you confirm with Rachelle before the 19th of the month prior to the new month, your spot stays yours. Your credit card will be charged on the day you register. However, starting month 2, which will be June, your credit card will be charged on the 1st of the month for however long you choose to continue. (June 1, July 1, August 1, etc - hopefully forever!🥰)
Q. How do I cancel my membership?
A. You must inform me via email by the 19th of the month prior to cancellation, so your credit card is not charged.
Q. What if I am a current student and I need to switch spots for the monthly membership when it begins or any time later?
A. I begin putting feelers out when students tell me they need to change times. Given ample notice, your changes should be able to be accommodated.
Q. May I register for more than 1 spot?
A. Yes! You may register for more than 1 spot if there are available spots. Registration for multiple spots is the same fee for each and entitles you to the same perks... 25lbs of clay for each spot, Open Studio time for each spot, etc.
Q. Will I be able to make-up a class that I have to miss?
A. There will not be any make-ups for missed classes, no exceptions. The monthly Open Studio dates are provided as an accommodation in case you need to miss class, although I will not be instructing. Those that don't miss a class, get to come to Open Studio as a bonus!🙌
Q. When will the Open Studios take place?
A. Starting September 2023, there will be many Open Studio hours to choose from through the month, around 30 hours a week actually! Prior to then,.a registration goes out for limited Open Studio hours that are announced at the beginning of each month.
Q. What will I be able to do in Open Studio?
A. Open Studio is an additional opportunity for you to create! You will be able to work on the wheel, handbuild, start new projects, work on current projects, etc. You will have access to all the equipment, tools, student glazes, etc. You are in charge of how you would like to use your time!
Q. Will you be teaching during Open Studio?
A. No, I will not be teaching, but during certain times I may be demoing a new technique or process. That will be published in advance. If you wish to do the activity along with me or later, there may be a fee that you would need to pay in advance. For example, I may demo how to make soy candles in your own pottery vessel so there would be a fee to cover those candle making supplies. I may demo using iron oxides on bisque ware or coloring clay with Mason stains and there would be a fee for those oxides or Mason stains and any other specialty supplies.
Q. Do I need to buy my clay through you?
A. Yes, you must buy your clay through me. There is a list of types of clay to choose from in the online membership resources. Only clay that is used in my studio will be fired. No outside clay and no outside pieces will be fired.😎
Q. May I split extra bags of clay with other students?
A. Yes, but that is completely between you and them.👏🏼
Q. What glaze choices will I have?
A. There is a shelf of "Student Glazes" for your use. Usually it will have 12-15 choices plus a Zinc-Free Clear. Some of these glazes may rotate and I will take requests into consideration. For "Student Glazes" I try to provide stable glazes with consistent results. There are additional glazes that you have access to upon request and that list is available in the online membership resources. If you would like anything different, you are welcome to purchase your own by adding them to my order and bringing cash for them at the time of order. They will be solely for your use and you can bring them with you when needed. They must be approved by me so that I can determine if they are compatible with the clays we use.
Q. May I work on pieces at home and bring them in to be fired?
A. No, only pieces that are done in Marvelous Mud Pottery Studio will be fired.
Q. May I bring in outside pieces to be fired?
A. Again, no. Only pieces that are done in Marvelous Mud Pottery Studio with the clays and glazes I approve, will be fired.
Q. Will you be willing to guide me, coach me on the business of art, setting up my own home studio, learning in-depth about firing, custom glazing, etc?
A. I am very willing to help you in more specific aspects of your personal goals as we progress. I will answer general questions as time allows, and more appropriately, during Open Studio rather than weekly classes. For more in-depth and specific guidance, I do offer mentorship and coaching appointments for an additional fee. Please email me with your requests.
Q. May I produce in quantity to sell at art shows, galleries, or other retail and wholesale opportunities?
Q. No, whether you are a professional artist/potter or a hobbyist that sells your work, you may not use our studio for production of any quantity.
Q. Do you offer internships/apprenticeships?
A. In the past, I have had interns and apprentices, both unpaid as volunteers and paid as assistants. Currently, I cannot commit to specific times to have an intern/apprentice, but may be able to once Monthly Memberships get underway. Often I will trade additional studio time for assistance. I do keep a running list of people interested. Please email me if you would like to be added to the list.
***Please note... starting August/September 2023, staff members will be managing Open Studio hours. If you need specific instruction with Rachelle, you may schedule that privately. There may be an instructional fee charged depending on the nature of the instruction.
More FAQ's will be added as needed. Please check back.
