New for 2025... Mason Stain Pigments will be available in the shop for in the moment purchasing! You no longer have to order ahead and wait for it to arrive. If you want to use Mason stains for a build you are doing in class, then you can get your Mason staines right then.
Mason stains are powered pigments made from oxides and frits that color your clay in brilliant hues. Mason stains can be combined with your chosen base clay in concentrated amounts and then worked into new clay to get desired level of color. Colored clay can be used by itself or marbled, patchworked, layered, or combined in a variety of other ways with the uncolored base clay.
Of course as members, you will use your own clay as the base clay for coloring. Rachelle recommends using either Little Loafers or P5 as a white base clay (when fired) shows the colors most vibrantly. Desert Buff can be used, but the colors will be altered due to the beige undertone of Desert Buff clay when fired.
The pictures show the Mason Stains on both P5 clay and Little Loafers combined in a 2 oz stain/11 oz clay ratio which is pretty concentrated. 1/2 of each is clear glazed. The other 1/2 is unglazed clay.
